The Miracle of 11/07

November 8, 2006 -We had our house tented for termite extermination over the weekend and it messed up our satellite dish. I
couldn't get the damned thing aimed in the right direction to watch election returns! I had to use Carole's kitchen mini-TV the whole
night!
But American voters never lost their sense of direction on November 7! They wanted the American ship of state turned onto a
different course and they did one heck of a job making their demand known!
God bless American voters!
It took the Russian communists almost a century to destroy their ideology, but America's neo-conservative ruling class took less than
six years to get the job done. Once again American efficiency worked wonders!
There are many lessons to be drawn from this resurgence of pragmatic, less partisan, common sense political expression. The very
fact of it makes it the "Miracle of 11/07".
It may be presumptuous to begin reciting grand conclusions but that has never stopped this commentator. Here are a few broadly
stated conclusions we draw from the "Miracle of 11/07".
American voters do not want to be manipulated by political elites of any stripe. As citizens of a vibrant democracy, they want to
know what their government is doing about and to them and they have an inborn distaste for secrecy and lies.
American voters have come to understand that the people they send to Washington are likely to be quickly absorbed into a culture
of privilege, arrogance and avarice. They are fed up with politicians whose primary goal seems to be to become richer through
elected or appointed office.
Voters are angry about the corruption they now believe to be bipartisan in Washington, and many people are concerned by the lack
of 'common folk' in high office.
American voters have had their fill of extreme partisanship, especially from Republicans. They know that the last Congress was our
worst and that it was a Republican Congress.
A majority of citizens have also had their fill of lying, vulgar and racist political commercials that insult their intelligence. Most also
understand which side is most responsible for this assault on their democracy and they meant to showed it by their votes.
Thoughtful Americans want Congress and the president to work together for every American's best interest, but many voters believe
that Congressional investigations will serve a valuable purpose if they inform voters, make voters alert to future lapses of integrity
and bring some justice to those who deceived them.
As a voter, you can be proud of your participation in the "Miracle of 11/07". It was an important and historic election. As a voter, you
must remain involved in what follows. Keep reminding the people you voted for that you are watching them and that you expect only
good all-American things from them!
