It's time to spank Ann Coulter

June 15, 2006 - Ann Coulter proves one thing about American democracy. You don't have to be raised in a poor trailer park to grow up white trash.

Mainstream America has finally awakened to the cancer that is Ann Coulter's voice and that is good news! She has nothing positive to say about America, either through her hate for liberals or in her outrageous and often offensive conservative views.

Ann Coulter has, for years now, been nothing more than a media vent for the bigotry and hatred that rests quietly in the minds of many conservatives who want to keep American white and pure(by their definition).

By using outrageous accusations and irrational construction to assail her imagined enemies and invented bogeymen, Coulter has given bigots a voice to their biases which are otherwise constrained by civil society. If you hate blacks and can't say so in polite company, laughing at Muslims when she calls them "swarthy" gives you some satisfaction.

There is no one better than Ann Coulter at distorting the meaning of words or the intentions of enemies. And Ann Coulter has all sorts of enemies. She is, quite simply, a liar almost every time she opens her mouth or picks up a pen.

It is time for her to be called to account for the damage she has done to America's public debate.

A fan of Joseph McCarthy, arguable the worst senator in American history, Coulter has gone the drunken, lying, vindictive psychopathic McCarthy one better. She does it all while still sober. One wonders where Ann Coulter got her father symbols. Perhaps the Christian Identity movement?

Like too many of her conservative talking-head cohorts, Coulter thinks her notoriety gives her the right to smear anyone she wishes. The attention and support she receives from the right-wing nuts at FOX News and the Republican gatherings she speaks before, enable her compulsion to be outrageous.

Most mature, open-minded Americans who bother to read her column or listen to her rants know her for what she is: An attention-starved immature adult female who obviously got too little fatherly attention as a child.

There is not a conservative parent in America who wouldn't spank a child who talked like Ann Coulter. And to them we say right on! Even the American Evangelical pope, Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family, who has written that there is nothing wrong with a little corporal punishment, would probably agree on that point.

Coulter's recent attacks of widows of victims of the atrocities of September 11, 2001 are vile and disgusting but they are no surprise to those of us who have listened to Ann Coulter or read her column. She has been spewing hate for years.

It is astonishing that the American media continue to give space to an individual who spouts such prejudice and bile. Citizens should express their outrage at the media which give her such exposure.

But just like so many of her neo-conservative peers who think they are entitled to special treatment, Ann Coulter has become the subject of a criminal investigation. She has joined Rush Limbaugh as a potential Florida felon!

Ann Coulter is suspected by Florida voting officials of having voted illegally in a February 2006 election even though a poll worker tried to stop her, according to the New York Daily News.

Coulter registered to vote at her Realtor's address when she bought a $1.8 million home in Palm Beach in 2005. Instead of filing a change of address to her true residence as a poll worker suggested, Coulter went ahead and voted in the wrong precinct, according to the Palm Beach Post. Doing so is a felony in Florida. If found guilty, she could be fined $5,000 and/or face five years in jail. As a convicted felon she would also lose the right to vote in Florida.

Coulter failed to respond to an inquiry about her true address from voting officials in Palm Beach County and has hired a former U.S. attorney with big Republican connections to represent her with the election official.

Coulter is also registered to vote in New Canaan, Conn., her home state, where it is illegal to be registered in two places at the same time. She also owns a $1.5 million condo on Manhattan's East Side but has never registered to vote there, according to the Daily News.

It is astonishing that the American media continue to give space to an individual who spouts such prejudice and hatred.
